The Morris High School Auditorium, the Bronx’s first interior designated as a New York City landmark, required meticulous restoration due to severe deterioration of historic plasterwork, a grand chandelier, and an iconic mural. Our firm carefully revived these architectural details, restored seating, and upgraded lighting to honor the auditorium’s early 20th-century character while discreetly integrating modern theatrical lighting and sound systems to support contemporary use. Completed over ten years ago, the project exemplifies the enduring value of sensitive preservation combined with technical upgrades, confirmed by post-construction assessments demonstrating lasting material performance and design success.
Fitzelle Hall at SUNY Oneonta, a 66,210-gsf academic building with a five-story office tower and three-story classroom wing, underwent a comprehensive program study and schematic design to modernize a structure built in 1968 with no prior major renovations. The project focused on optimizing space for diverse departments and upgrading mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The selected design added a new story for future growth, introduced a fully glazed north façade and skylights for natural light, and created a glass-enclosed student lounge with campus views—resulting in a flexible, efficient, and inviting learning environment aligned with evolving academic needs.
The consultant team, some of whose primary members are the same for this proposal, proceeded simultaneously on two tracks:
1) Academic Programming
2) Building Survey
After user consultations and a thorough building assessment, a final design was chosen from three options and refined with a cost estimate. The design adds a new story for future expansion, maximizes natural light with a glazed northern façade and skylights, and includes a glass-enclosed student lounge with campus views.
