David Smotrich & Partners LLP led the comprehensive $28 million renovation of Nathan Hale Hall, addressing extensive issues including asbestos remediation, concrete spalling, and interior water infiltration. Originally a dark, outdated facility, the project transformed the building into a modern, technology-driven academic environment. A key design feature is the large, double-height central atrium with skylights and two-story glass curtain walls, visually connecting the interior to the campus. The renovation also included exterior upgrades, sidewalk improvements, and landscaping, all designed to be elegant, economical, and fully ADA compliant. Nathan Hale Hall earned Silver LEED Certification and was featured in American University Magazine for its outstanding design and interior renovation.
