The Brooklyn Bridge anchorage vaults—once used by the NYC Department of Transportation for storage—were reimagined by DSP as dynamic spaces for events, art exhibitions, and live performances.
The renovation required a sensitive preservation approach, including a custom cleaning method using crushed walnut shells and high-pressure water to safely remove buildup without compromising the original stone or mortar.
This historic restoration posed unique design challenges due to the scale and raw character of the space. Neon and specialty lighting were integrated to define the large, open volumes and enhance the spatial experience. The facility also includes public restrooms and is fully ADA-accessible.
