DSP Architecture has led the feasibility study, design, and construction documentation for Phase I of a comprehensive restroom renovation initiative across the CUNY College of Staten Island campus. This initial phase includes upgrades to restrooms in Buildings 1A, 2A, 3A, 1C, 1P, and 1L.
The overarching goal of the project is to create restrooms that are fully accessible, inclusive, functional, low-maintenance, and visually appealing. With a focus on universal design principles, DSP has worked closely with the College to ensure the renovated facilities meet ADA standards while also supporting the diverse needs of the campus community.
This project is more than a technical upgrade—it is a strategic opportunity to establish a cohesive and elevated design language across the campus. By implementing consistent materials, finishes, and design details, the College is creating a sense of identity and continuity throughout its facilities.
DSP’s approach integrates durable, sustainable materials and efficient plumbing fixtures to ensure long-term performance and ease of maintenance, while enhancing the user experience through thoughtful lighting, signage, and spatial layout. The campus-wide restroom renovation reflects the College’s commitment to accessibility, equity, and design excellence—and Phase I serves as a model for future upgrades across the institution.
